UPDATED 3.15pm
EWAN MCGREGOR refused to appear on ITV’s Good Morning Britain earlier this morning after realising Piers Morgan was the host.
The actor was scheduled to appear on on the show today to promote the Trainspotting sequel T2, but, as Morgan put it on air, “decided not to turn up”.
McGregor sent a tweet explaining his absence, saying he did not agree with Morgan’s comments about the Women’s March:
On Saturday, Morgan called the march “vacuous” and said it was attended by “rabid feminists” – so the usual Piers Morgan fare, then.
He shot back by implying that McGregor was not a “real man” for refusing to appear on the show and “debate” it with him.
However in his next tweet, he said that they had “no intention” of talking to McGregor about the Women’s March. So what is the truth, Piers?
The Telegraph reports that his GMB co-host Susanna Reid then reminded him that there were many people who didn’t like his comments, “including the woman sat next to you.”
McGregor has so far chosen not to respond to any of Morgan’s tweets or the piece the presenter wrote about him in the Daily Mail earlier this afternoon.
The piece brands McGregor a “pedophile-loving hypocrite”, citing the actor’s work with controversial director Roman Polanski, and asks Trump and Brexit supporters to boycott his films:
By refusing to be interviewed by me simply because I have a different opinion about a political march, McGregor revealed himself to be a narrow-minded, stupendously self-aggrandising, anti-democratic little twerp. Perhaps everyone who voted Trump or Brexit should now boycott his movies?
